Just received, the following release from Gavin Whitworth:

“The eagerly anticipated 7th North v South Ryder Cup Challenge will be held at the St Mellion International Resort, Cornwall and is now only four months away! It is a privilege to be asked to Captain the Southern Team and working closely with my two Vice-Captains, Ben Moyle and Kevin Ulla we have completed our qualification process and have started the task of building a high-performing team. I know the new Team North Captain, Phil Lister, working with his Vice-Captain, Stephen Hardwick has been through a similar process and we are both pleased to announce our teams, which will follow shortly.

“When St Mellion International Resort knew that they had won the bid to host this prestigious event they began work in 2008 on the £20 million redevelopment which saw inclusion on the European Tour. Changes included improving the existing holes and adding nine new holes, and in 2010 the newly-renamed Kernow Course was born. The Nicklaus signature course is amongst the finest golf courses anywhere, and was also the first European course personally designed by Jack Nicklaus: !I knew it was going to be good, but not this good…it’s everything I hoped for and more…St Mellion is potentially the finest golf course in Europe and we look forward to hosting the 7th Ryder Cup Challenge.

“Well the two year wait is almost over and I know Team South are looking forward to welcoming the Northern Team into the heart of the South West and letting rivalries commence once more in what is becoming one of the greatest tournaments in match play golf. The record books show that we will have to be at our very best to beat a consistently high performing team from the North and will have to improve our levels of play and mental toughness if we are to take the coveted trophy for the first time in twelve years. I am confident that we have a team that are prepared to battle for every point and that we are ready to turn the tide and put the South back on the winner’s podium on home soil.

“I am pleased to announce the players that will this year compete for Team South in the 7th North v South Ryder Cup Challenge.
